BMW 3: Hands-free system

General information

Calls that are being made on the hands-free system can be continued on the mobile phone and vice versa.

From the mobile phone to the hands-free system

Calls that were begun outside of the Bluetooth range of the vehicle can be continued on the hands-free system with standby state switched on. The vehicle key must be located in the vehicle for this to work.

Depending on the mobile phone, the system automatically switches to the hands-free system.

If the system does not switch over automatically, follow the instructions on the display of the mobile phone. Refer also to the owner's manual of the mobile phone.

From the hands-free system to the mobile phone

If the vehicle switches to the idle state or the vehicle is exited with the vehicle key, a call that was started with the hands-free system can be continued via the mobile phone, depending on the mobile phone.

Follow the instructions on the display of the mobile phone. Refer also to the owner's manual of the mobile phone.

Contacts

General information

Contacts from the mobile phone are transferred and displayed. Contact pictures can be displayed, if the mobile phone supports this function.

Contact entries having identical names are combined into one contact.

Displaying all contacts

1. "COM".

2. "Contacts".

The contacts are listed in alphabetical order. Depending on the number of contacts, contact search and quick search are offered.

Filter contacts

You can choose, whether and from which mobile phone the contacts should be displayed.

1. "COM".

2. "Contacts".

3. "Filter" 4. Select the desired mobile phone.

Contact display sequence

Contact names can be displayed in a different order.

Depending on how the contacts were stored on the mobile phone, the sorting order of the contacts may differ from the selected sorting order.

1. "COM".

2. "Contacts".

3. Press the button.

4. "Display order".

5. "First name Last name" or "Last name, first name".

6. Select desired order.

Sorting contacts

Contacts can be sorted in a different order. Depending on how the contacts were stored on the mobile phone, the sorting order of the contacts may differ from the selected sorting order.

1. "COM".

2. "Contacts".

3. Press the button.

4. "Sorting order".

5. "Last name" or "First name" 6. Select desired order.

Contact search

Contact search is available with more than 30 contacts.

1. "COM".

2. "Contacts".

3. "Search".

4. Enter the letters.

The hits are displayed on the right side.

5. Move the Controller to the right.

6. Select the contact to display it.

Quick search in lists

Quick search is available starting from 30 contacts.

Letters and syllables, for which an entry exists, will be displayed in the matrix format in alphabetic order.

1. Turn the Controller to the left or right quickly.

Available contacts with the first letters or syllables are displayed.

2. Select the first letter or syllable of the desired contact.

The first entry of the selected letter or selected syllable is displayed.

Detail search

The contact search can be expanded to individual details of the contact, such as the phone number.

1. "COM".

2. "Contacts".

3. Press the button.

4. "Search in details".

5. Confirm the selection.

6. Enter search term for contact search.

Additional functions

Depending on the equipment version, the following functions are available in a selected contact:

  • Start destination guidance.
  • Call contact.
  • New e-mail.

Checking the address as a destination

If the vehicle is equipped with a navigation system, a contact can be adopted as a destination.

1. Select the desired contact.

2. Select the address.

3. "Check address" or, if necessary "Search for address online".

4. Correct entries, if necessary.

5. "Start guidance".

The address can be used for the destination guidance.

Showing contact pictures

Pictures stored with the contacts are displayed in the vehicle when a suitable mobile phone is connected to the vehicle.

1. "COM".

2. "Contacts".

3. Press the button.

4. "Display contact picture".

5. Activate the function.

Voice command response

A connected smartphone can be used via voice operation.

Activate voice command response on the smartphone for this purpose.

Press the button for at least 3 seconds. Voice command response is activated on the smartphone.

The symbol on the Control Display indicates that the voice command response is active.
